Juice Fasting and Skin Health: A Path to a Radiant Glow

Juice Fasting to a Path for a Radiant Glow

When I first heard about juice fasting I was in my 20s and didn’t pay much attention to it. I thougt it was just another weightloss fad. I was fascinated by the results people were having with it, but I still didnt try it until recently when my skin started to change in my 30s.

So, I gave it a try. It wasn’t the weight loss or the bursts of energy that intrigued me, it was my skin. I was the teenager who never got acne or any type of skin blemish that regular teenagers and young adults get in their 20’s.

No, I started for me in the early 30s to now. With the constant battles of uneven textures, hormonal breakouts, and dullness, I decided to give juicing a try. My first juice was a simple one. I looked online at fruit and vegetables that could help improve my skin and cucumbers were the winner.

I knew that if I wanted to see an actual change in my skin condition, that I would need to drink cucumbers for a certain length of time. So, I gave it a full week. Monday through Sunday, I made cucumber juice my main drink. I even drank it over having water because I was serious about it.

To start this 7 day juicing with cucumbers I purchased 10 large, regular cucumbers. When you are trying this, do not get the English cucumbers because they do not have much water content.

The next thing I did was wash my produce and start juicing. Because I only used one ingredient the prep time was very minimal.

Once I finished juicing, I had a total of ten bottles of juice that lasted me the whole seven days. I also drank water as well. In order for this to work these were the only two beverages that I drank. And let me tell you, I got my results!

My skin was clear and free of blemishes. It was also brighter. I remember receiving complements from family who noticed the skin differences.

This is and always will be a go to juice for me when I want to clear up my skin. Majority of my skin problems are hormonal and around the chin area. I also had an alergic reaction to something that I still cant figure out what it was, but the juice cleared it up during those seven days.

Receiving those complements were great, but it was really how healthy and more resilient my skin felt. As a Biology graduate, I knew science wouldn’t let me down.

The Problem: Understanding Skin Issues

With everyday internal stress, poor diet choices, and environmental toxin buildup, you skin is the first to show the signs and symptoms. Common issues like acne, dryness, or redness are frequently tied to inflammation, poor hydration, and not getting enough nutrition.

You often use a topical solution when something goes wrong with your skin, but there is argument that to get healthy skin you much watch what you put into your body.

Juice fasting is a great place to start. Start by temporarily eliminating heavy foods and focus on nutrient-dense juices to give your digestive system a break. Its a great feeling knowing that you are flooding your system with vitamins and antioxidants that are critical for skin repair and rejuvenation. And, not to mention you’re giving you digestive system a break.

How Juicing Helps the Skin

Here are 4 ways juicing can help improve your skin.

Detoxification and Reduced Inflammation

Got acne and eczema? Try juicing carrots and sweet potatoes to get beta-carotene. What about leafy greens for polyphenols to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation. Remove toxins from your live with celery and cucumber. You skin reflects this internal cleanliness.

Hydration

Hydration, hydration, hydration. I cant stress that enough. You have to constantly consume your juice. Its a good practice to reach for fruit and vegetables that have high water content, like cucumbers, watermelon or celery. Staying hydrated will get your skin plump and minimize fine lines.

Collagen Production

Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis, that gives us that firm skin and youthful look. Oranges and lemons, often used in juicing, provide an abundant supply. Studies show that consuming vitamin C though whole foods can improve skin elasticity and slow signs of aging.

Balance Your Microbiome

Juice fasting also helps with a rebalance of the gut microbiome. A healthy gut has been linked to clear, glowing skin. Ingredients like ginger and leafy greens feed the beneficial gut bacteria, improving skin health over time.

A diet that is rich in antioxidants from juice fasting decreased oxidative stress by 38% after two weeks, according to a 2018 study from the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry. Another survey showed people who followed a juice fast regiment reported noticeable improvements in skin clarity within a month.

Juicing is more than a diet, its a necessary lifestyle investment in your skin. By making this you daily routine you can address many underlying causes of common skin issues from inflammation to hydration.
